Things No Tongue Can Speak
"And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father." (3 Nephi 17:17). Languages, invented by imperfect and fallible humans, are themselves imperfect and fallible. No language on Earth is complete or perfect because you can find words and ideas and concepts in one language that simply don't exist in another. All this is to say, sometimes we may know a gospel truth in the depths of our soul that we find hard to articulate in words. We may know with utter surety about the Divinity of Christ but struggle to find the words to express our feelings. This could be because we are not as skilled in language as we would hope, but it is just as possible that the feelings and concepts that we are trying to express exist in a higher plane than our language is capable of describing or explaining. Sometimes the truths the Spirit reveals are more pure than our impure language can grab onto. The farther we progress in our spiritual journey, the more we will leave behind the language to express the revelations that we receive. This is why the wise virgins couldn't share their oil, because the truths they had begun to acquire had moved beyond their ability to share through the written or spoken word. I know that as we continue to develop our relationship with the Holy Ghost, He will reveal things that no tongue can speak, nor can be written down.
