The first ordinance of the gospel is baptism by immersion. There are many reasons why it is necessary and important to be baptized by immersion, but one of the key reasons is that baptism is the gateway to the covenant path and it serves as a model for every aspect of the gospel. We are baptized by immersion because we are to do every ordinance and covenant and act of faith and obedience by immersion. We are to be immersed or “all in” with our efforts to learn and grow and become like our Savior Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father wants us to love Him with all of our hearts, minds, and souls, not just part of them. We are to give up all of our sins to know Him, not just some of them. By being baptized by immersion, we signify that we will eventually become so immersed in trusting and relying on the Father that our will becomes swallowed up in His will.
