Giver of Gifts

Most of us remember the experience of asking parents for gifts as children. This might be on birthdays or holidays or special occasions or sometimes just because we saw something that we wanted. We would often become convinced that we had to have a specific gift or the day and our whole lives would be ruined. Our loving parents wanted us to be happy and wanted to give us gifts, but they also had more experience than us and had to consider the costs for certain gifts and the long term consequences. They had to consider their own budgets for both time and money and our own abilities and capacities for appreciating or taking good care of the gifts we were given. So sometimes they didn't give us exactly what we asked for. Sometimes they gave us something as close as they could. Sometimes they gave us something completely different but that we ended up liking even more than we could imagine. As good as our parents may have been at giving good gifts, our Heavenly Father, Who has all power in Heaven and Earth, is even better. God knows our capabilities and our limits. Sometimes He doesn't give us exactly what we asked for because He knows it won't be good for us, or because we don't yet have the capacity to fully appreciate the gift we're seeking. And sometimes He gives us something we didn't ask for but that we end up liking more than we could have imagined. God wants us to be happy and He wants to give us not just good things, but the best things for us that exactly fit our current situation.
