In God We Trust

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). To trust in the Lord with all of our heart is to demonstrate, with our thoughts, words, and actions that we have assured confidence in His powers and abilities and in His love and interest on our behalf. But we could also conceptualize it in a slightly different way. We can put trust in the Lord with all our heart, or we can put all of our heart in the Lord’s trust, or in His care. In other words, we can surrender all of our heart to our Heavenly Father for Him to watch over and protect and take responsibility. In practical terms, it mostly amounts to the same thing, but it might make the decision a little easier on us if we are struggling. For example, if there is some particular pain or suffering or deferred dream or missed opportunity that is beyond our ability to manage, then we can turn it over to the Lord’s trust and have Him look after it. If we can’t find it in ourselves to forgive someone who has deeply wronged us, we can turn it over to the Lord’s trust. If we have prayed and prayed and prayed and are told once again, not yet, we can turn it over to the Lord’s trust. The more often and the more completely that we manage to turn over to the Lord’s trust all of the parts of our heart that have become unmanageable and too much for us, the easier it will be for us to keep putting more and more of our lives into His trust, until we have given Him all of our hearts, holding nothing back. I know that the Lord is willing and eager to have us put our whole souls in His trust so that He can direct our paths and help us to become like Him. I hope that we will continue to find reasons to put ourselves in the Lord’s trust.
