Good Is Good Enough

"And God saw that it was good." At the end of each creative period, God surveyed His handiwork and saw that it was good. Not perfect, or flawless, or dazzlingly brilliant, or stunningly beautiful, or mind-blowingly awesome, but good. God knew that this would be essentially the first draft for the Earth and everything in it and that it would grow and change over thousands of years, and that He would send His Son, not once but twice to rescue and redeem and save and perfect all of His creations. He did not need to create a perfect earth at the beginning, but rather, a good earth. He did not need to create perfect children at the beginning, but good children. When we create something, we can acknowledge that our creation is good, without beating ourselves up because it is not perfect. "Good" was good enough for God and it ought to be good enough for us. If our creations or the fruits of our labors help more than they harm, if they inspire more than they depress, if they bring together in love rather than alienate with hate, if they increase the light and push back the darkness, then, like God, we can look at our work and see that it is good. Good is good enough for this life. We can work on perfection in the next life.
