Worlds Without End

When we take a moment to gaze up at the night sky on a clear night away from the light pollution of cities, there is hardly a patch of sky that isn’t filled with stars. Even then, the parts that appear to be completely dark and empty aren’t. In December of 1995, scientists aimed the Hubble Telescope at what they thought was a completely empty field of space. They took 342 separate images over a 10 day period and they discovered that in that seemingly entirely empty patch of sky were images of more stars and galaxies than anyone had assumed ever existed. Our Heavenly Father is first and foremost a Creator. He creates many things for the benefit and enjoyment of His children, but beyond that, He creates because He enjoys creating. He created whole galaxies of stars that we wouldn’t be able to see until we had launched a complicated Telescope off of our planet and then, just for kicks, aimed at a completely blank patch of sky on the off chance that we might see something interesting. God created all of those stars because He loves making beautiful things, and He doesn’t care if anyone else will ever see them. We are children of our Heavenly Father. We have inherited His ability to Create. Whether we are creating symphonies or sculptures or toffee or to do lists, whenever we are creating anything, we are following in our Father’s footsteps. And if it seems like no one notices or appreciates our creations, then we are still following in our Father’s footsteps. And even if it were true that nobody on Earth appreciates our creations - it isn’t - our Father in Heaven does notice and appreciate our Creative efforts. Heavenly Father takes just as much pleasure and pride and joy in our perfectly cooked spiral cut ham as He does in a perfectly constructed spiral arm galaxy. We also should never feel that we have reached the end of our Creative capacity, because even though our Heavenly Father has created billions of worlds in billions of galaxies, He isn’t even close to finishing His Creations. We are destined to create worlds without end, and every poem or computer program or model train or sack lunch or treehouse is just one more Creation to add to our portfolio. I hope we can be filled with our Father’s pure joy at Creating for no other reason than the pleasure of the Creative process.
