Get Woke with God’s Love

In the Fairy Tale of Sleeping Beauty, the only thing that can rouse the princess from her sleep is true love. Many of us choose to close ourselves off, or be ignorant of the sufferings and hard times that our neighbors go through. We effectively lull ourselves to sleep when we choose to only focus on our own problems and pursue our own pleasures. There is so much that is hard and ugly and evil and mean in the world that it is better to shut all of that out and dream of better things. But putting ourselves to sleep does not make the problems go away. It just makes us more vulnerable because now we can't see them coming. But if we can have true love - love for our Heavenly Father, love for our neighbors and love for ourselves, then we can wake up from the sleep we've put ourselves under and instead of hiding from the world's problems we can face them and, with the Lord's help, we can solve them. If danger is coming towards us, closing our eyes doesn't make the danger go away. We go to sleep because we are afraid, but perfect love casteth fear out. When we love with all our heart, might, mind and strength, we don't have to sleep and dream of a better world, we will be living in a better world because we will love it enough to roll up our sleeves and make it better.
