Doubling Our Talents

I was thinking about the parable of the talents, where the Lord gives to one servant five talents and to another two and to the last one talent. The expectation for each servant was exactly the same. Whether they had five talents or one they were expected to double their talents. The servant with five talents wasn't expected to try to match the pace of the person with one talent and vice versa. We don't need to try to compete with anyone else because we've all been given different levels of talent and ability and privilege and drive. Whether we're rich or poor, smart or stupid, friendly or disagreeable, humble or proud, we're all expected to take what we've been blessed with and multiply those blessings out in the world around us. There is no excuse of not having enough or having too much. A person with a lot of talents has a lot to work with but doubling a lot is going to be a lot harder. A person with few talents doesn't have a lot to work with but it's actually a lot easier to double a few talents than many. We all have our own special set of advantages and disadvantages, but we are to magnify and multiply the gifts we have received and not complain that too much has been asked of us. I think it might take off some of the pressure when we realize that we don't have to achieve as much as those who always seem so much farther ahead than us, but it might also turn up the pressure a little to realize that we have the same expectation to double what we've been given, however much or little that might be.
