The Lion and the Lamb
One of the descriptors of Jesus Christ is the "Lion of Judah." This aspect of Jesus Christ could be Justice, the stern and powerful lawgiver who devours the unrighteous and unrepentant. Another of the Savior's titles is "the Lamb of God." This aspect of Jesus Christ could be Mercy, meek and gentle and full of forgiveness to all those who come unto Him to offer up a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Under normal circumstances, it would be unwise to leave a lamb and a lion together. In the same way, it is generally impossible to have both justice and mercy be satisfied. But thanks to the infinite Atonement of Jesus Christ, both justice and mercy can coexist thanks to His sacrifice. And it is said at the end of God's great and marvelous work that there will be no hurt nor harm on all His holy mountain and the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judah will lie down together without any ire. Both justice and mercy will be able to coexist thanks to the Savior's Atonement and all of our choices to repent and obtain forgiveness.
