I Am Not Come To Destroy, But To Fulfill
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Matthew 5:17-18). When a seed is planted and the plant sprouts up, although there is no more seed, the seed was not destroyed, but fulfilled, for the seed still lives on through the plant. When a caterpillar enters the cocoon and then later a butterfly emerges, the caterpillar was not destroyed, but fulfilled, for the caterpillar lives on through the butterfly. When Jesus came to Earth, He did not seek to destroy the law but to help it fulfill its purpose by giving life to a new law and a new testament and a new and everlasting covenant. Sometimes as we follow the promptings of the Spirit, we may feel that we must sacrifice, even destroy, important parts of ourselves to follow our Savior. But Jesus Christ is a Creator, not a destroyer. Nothing we offer up to the Lord is ever wasted or destroyed. Through our faithfulness and His power, everything we give up to the Lord will fulfill its purpose and be transformed into something much more beautiful and powerful and eternal.
