For A Wise Purpose

“And I do this for a wise purpose; for thus it whispereth me, according to the workings of the Spirit of the Lord which is in me. And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore, he worketh in me to do according to his will.” (Words of Mormon 1:7). We don’t always get to know why the Lord asks us to do something, or to refrain from some course of action. But we can trust that whatever the Lord commands us to do, it is for a wise purpose. He sees the end from the beginning. He loves each of us individually and perfectly. We can be sure that whatever the Lord commands us to do, it will be the most good not only for ourselves but will also accomplish the most good for all of His children. It is hard for us to commit to something when we don’t know what the reasons behind it are. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Our relentless drive to understand and gain knowledge is a big part of what makes us God’s children, and even if the Lord’s reasons aren’t always apparent, that doesn’t mean that we should ever stop trying to understand the mysteries of God. But while understanding may come early or late, we are blessed when we do the Lord’s will whether we understand why or not. When we cannot comprehend the whys, let us at least remember that it is for a wise purpose.
