Breaking and Remaking the Commandments

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai and saw his people breaking most of the commandments he had just received from the Lord, Moses literally broke the commandments, or at least, the stone tablets on which the commandments were carved. But the Lord had Moses carve out a new set of stone tablets and then carve out the commandments on them once more. It must have taken a long time both the first and the second time carving the commandments into stone. It would have required a lot of work and effort and patience and persistence. When we break commandments or covenants, God will give us another opportunity to make and keep them sacred. Like carving into hard stone, it may require hard work and patience and dedication to once again make and keep our covenants and commandments, but it will be worth it to have the Lord as a constant presence in our lives.
