Articles Of Faith

In English grammar there are two kinds of articles. The is the definite article. It is used with a noun when it is clear and unambiguous which specific noun is being referred to. When we say Jesus is the Christ, we mean that He is the one and only truly Anointed One, and not just one among many different Messiahs. A, An, and Some are indefinite articles which are used when it is not particularly clear or definitive which specific noun is being referred to. If someone told us to meet them at a restaurant downtown, we might have a really hard time meeting them without more information. I want to discuss how definite and indefinite articles relate to Articles of Faith. Do we have definite or indefinite articles of faith? Do we pray to the one true God, our Heavenly Father, who knows and loves each of us personally and is intimately aware of our desires and our struggles and is actively working to bring about our salvation? Or do we pray in the hopes that there is a God out there listening, on the off chance that he might be bothered to help us out of this specific predicament? Do we have faith in and actively work to live by the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, knowing in our hearts that along with the power of Christ's Atonement this is the only and true way to attain peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come? Or do we try to pick and choose a truth here and some doctrines there from a bunch of different religions and belief systems, saying, to each their own, and truth is what you make it? Through the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, we can transform our Articles of Faith from a nebulous mishmash of some indefinite beliefs into the clear, unambiguous, definite Articles of Faith.
