Greater Works Than These

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12). It seems a little ridiculous to believe that any of us could do greater works than Jesus, but let's take a look. At the height of His popularity, Jesus had thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of followers. It is not uncommon for some social media influencers to have millions or even tens of millions of followers. Christ fed five thousand people in one day. It is estimated that an average McDonald's serves two to three thousand people a day. A single worker at a busy fast food restaurant might feed as many as a quarter million people over the course of a year. Christ brought three people back to life. Every day in every city in America EMTs and ER doctors bring back people from the brink of death. Christ healed perhaps dozens of blind people during His ministry. A single popular YouTuber personally paid for a thousand blind people to have cataract surgery so they could see again. Christ walked on water, but we have sent people to walk on the moon. We live in an age of miracles, and have all personally seen and performed greater works than Jesus did during His lifetime, although, credit where credit is due, we would not be able to do such great works without the enabling power of the Atonement and the light of Christ to guide us.
