Steadfast

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58). To be steadfast is to stand firm in the place we have been given. The Lord has given us a particular place in His plan. As we earnestly and sincerely seek the Lord’s will, He will reveal this place to us, and He will fill us with His grace and power that we may stand firm in the place that He has prepared for us. So much of our lives are spent frantically rushing from place to place, trying to belong, trying to fit in. But if we trust in the Lord and surrender our will to His, He will reveal the place that He has prepared for us, that we need not be always fretting about who we are supposed to be or where we’re supposed to be in our lives. We can stand firm in the knowledge that this is God’s place for us, this is the place where we can do the most good, where we can abound in the work of the Lord, and be not moved always by every new philosophy or popular opinion. If we have found our place, then it doesn’t matter if fashions or tastes, laws or public opinions, good will or bad shift and swirl about us. Death and Hell can combine against us, and beat upon the rock of the place that God has prepared for us, and we will not be moved from our place. We will be steadfast.
