Blessed Are the Peacemakers

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9). “For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.” Before we could ever hope to make peace with the world around us, we must first make peace inside ourselves. We are Spirit children of our Heavenly Father. As such, we have a natural love and affection for our Father. But our spirits are placed inside bodies of flesh that inhabit a corrupted and fallen world, and these bodies have natural tendencies that are opposed to, or enemies against, God’s eternal work and glory. So much of the confusion that rages in our hearts is because of the constant war going on between the desires of our flesh and the desires of our spirit. But we can make peace inside our hearts. Our mortal bodies are time-bound, and don’t immediately recognize God as their Creator, but God is the Creator of both our Spirits and our bodies. He is literally the Father of our Spirits, but as the Creator of the entire universe and everything in it, He is also the Father of our bodies, insomuch as every cell and atom in our bodies ultimately comes from Him. As we yield to the enticings of the Holy Spirit and put off the natural man and become a saint through the Atonement of Christ the Lord, we become not just like a child, but we become more fully than we have ever been Children of God. We have made peace with the warring natures in our soul and our natural tendencies of both our Spirit and our flesh have become integrated as one complete whole, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, and as peacemakers who have become children of God, willing to submit to all things which the Lord, our Father in body and spirit, seeth fit to inflict upon us.
