Building Us Up

"That the work of the gathering together of my saints may continue, that I may build them up unto my name upon holy places; for the time of harvest is come, and my word must needs be fulfilled." (D&C 101:64). The Lord intends to build us up. This reminds me of a quote from CS Lewis: "Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself." However wild and seemingly unattainable our ambitions are for our lives and what we would like to accomplish or become, they absolutely pale in comparison to what God has planned for us. If we trust in Him and humble ourselves enough to allow Him to build us up in His own way, He will make of us something far grander and more glorious and more perfect than we could have ever hoped, or even imagined. Christ is a carpenter and He knows how to build of us not the shabby little cottage we had aspired to but a palace fit not for a king but for a God.
