Suffer the Children

I believe that our spirits are naturally in a very childlike state, that our spirits long to come unto the Lord in a way that is meek and lowly and humble and submissive. But so often we get in our own way and we rationalize why the Lord would not want to receive us, or why we have no need for turning to the Lord for this particular man. By denying our spirits the opportunity to draw near to the Lord, we are forbidding our childlike spirits. To suffer the little children and forbid them not is to recognize the humble and childlike desires of our spirit and allow ourselves to submit to the Lord. It is OK to acknowledge that the situation we are in is beyond our strength and wisdom. It is OK to want to turn to the Lord and partake of His strength. It is OK to become as a little child. When Christ commanded us to suffer the little children and forbid them not, the most important child we are to suffer is ourselves. Christ’s yoke is easy and His burden is light. He has comfort and light and strength for all of us, freely available from moment to moment, and our beloved Savior would like nothing more than to wrap us in His loving embrace and comfort us as the little children that we are.
