Lifelong Learners

The word Disciple comes from the Latin word for student. When we choose to be disciplined, we are acknowledging that we are not finished learning. We recognize that there exists still a great gulf between what we know now and what we may yet still learn, between who we are now and who we may yet one day become. To be disciplined is to acknowledge that the great gulf exists but to not be discouraged by the vastness separating the student from the Master. By choosing to be true disciples, true students, we are fearless in confronting the unknown, tireless in picking ourselves up from our failures, boundless in our curiosity. We do not get frustrated or bored or satisfied. We look up at the unscalable peaks of Perfection and jubilantly shout, "Challenge Accepted." Whether we have been given much or little, we want to receive more, more, always more. And we shall. As long as we are meek and lowly of heart and willing to be disciples of Jesus Christ, we can continue to learn of Him literally forever. "For this is life eternal, to know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). We can learn about our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ and with each new piece of knowledge we discover, a thousand new questions will arise, and the more we explore, the more we will want to find out. We can learn and learn and learn and there will always be more to fascinate and captivate and motivate us to be more disciplined and to dig deeper and to understand more.
