Thank You Notes

“And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?” (Alma 5:26). Often, before a performance, a singer will sing some warm-up notes to loosen up the vocal cords and get ready. These will often be the same sets of scales and arpeggios because these warm-up notes aren’t necessarily dramatic or exciting, but they do the job of getting the singer ready. If we are struggling to sing the song of redeeming love, then we may need to start with some warm-up notes. These notes don’t have to be flashy or melodically complex. We may end up singing the same kinds of warm up notes day after day, because these are the kinds of notes that are the best at getting us ready to sing the song of redeeming love. Some of the best warm-up notes that we can sing are Thank You Notes. Gratitude can unlock the full power of the song of redeeming love faster than almost anything else. Moroni teaches us how important gratitude is to feeling the music of the Spirit swell within us - “ Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts. And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.” (Moroni 10:3-5). With every thank you note we can remember a little clearer how merciful the Lord has been unto the children of Adam, from the creation of Adam down to the present moment. And as we sing these same Thank You Notes day after day, we warm ourselves up to sing the full song of Redeeming love, so that the Holy Ghost can show us the truth of all things, so that we may sing new melodies that we had never thought of before.
