“Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ.” (Moroni 7:19) Judging good from evil is not supposed to be some mindless, idle task. Christ has given us of his light and we are to search diligently in that light for those things that edify and uplift us and lay hold on these things and leave aside those that will only tear us down. We talk a lot about the iron rod and also about the mists of darkness. I imagine that rod being suffused with the light of Christ so that for those who hold fast continuously and press forward with faith, the mists of darkness held no terror. They pressed forward with a perfect brightness of hope and all the elements combined could not hedge up the way before them. C.S. Lewis said “ I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." When we diligently seek out that which is good we become the children of Christ. I know that in the darkness everything seems to be just different shades of grey, but when we hold onto the light, the light will reveal that which is good, that we may know good from evil.
