The Righteousness of God Revealed From Faith To Faith

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17). In a world full of evil and malice and cruelty and wickedness, it is easy to doubt God. Doubt that God exists, doubt that He cares if we suffer or not, doubt that He has the power to fix any of our problems specifically or the problems of the world generally. It is much, much easier to doubt these things when we stop living by faith. When we let fear overcome our courage, and selfishness overcome our selflessness, and a desire to get even overcome our desire to forgive, and stubbornly cling to our pride rather than humbly yield to the better angels of our natures, and let the cares of the world and the praise of men and the swooping servants of the adversary crowd out and stifle and snatch up our fragile seeds of faith, it is easy to doubt God. But when we pick ourselves up, and shake off the dust, and put one foot in front of the other, and take hold of the rod of iron, and walk the straight and narrow path, and keep our eyes fixed on the hope of Salvation, and when we plant and water and nourish and weed our little plant of faith, then from one small act of faith to the next, we reveal the righteousness of God. Every time we go forth, not knowing beforehand the way that we should go, and the Spirit guides us anyway, we see a little more clearly God’s love in our life. In Lehi’s vision, a single, glorious Tree was revealed to Him. It was one precious glimpse of the righteousness of God. When we exercise our faith, we can have that same vision revealed to us. But we ought not to stop with one tree. Each time we exercise our faith, a new vision of God’s righteousness can be revealed to us. Instead of one beautiful Tree, we ought to seek after an entire forest, a sacred grove, all revealed because we chose to plant seed after seed of faith, and the diligence to see each seed sprout and mature into a majestic tree. A single tree might be lost to fire or flooding or frost, but a forest can weather any storm. We should not think that one single act of faith can unlock all of God’s righteousness. It is revealed from faith to faith, a little more each and every time.
