My Burden Is Light
Christ invites us to come unto Him because His yoke is easy and His burden is light. I think from context it’s pretty clear that in this instance light means not heavy, but you could read the phrase “my burden is light” as in my burden or my mission is to be a light unto the world. One of the reasons we are on this Earth is to bear the light of Christ, to hold it up as high as we can and let it shine on as many people as we can reach. It is more responsibility and more accountability and more visibility to bear the burden of light, but it is much easier to bear a burden in the light, then to carry nothing and yet stumble in the dark. But the more we embrace the Savior and His burden of light, the brighter and brighter that light will shine, and the clearer and clearer we will be able to see and understand. As Paul said, we all see through a glass darkly, but as long as we’re carrying our burden of light, then the glass isn’t quite so dark.
