Christmas Lights

We put up lights at Christmas because Jesus is the Light of the World. And Christ, for His part, has said that if we are to follow His example, then we too must be the light of the world. When we hang up Christmas lights, it's not just one big Christmas light, but hundreds of little lights. Each light on its own may not be bright enough to see much of anything by, but, together with hundreds of others, they can light up the whole street. We're not going to solve all of our problems or change the world with one big, grand gesture. In fact, when taken on their own, each of our efforts to improve ourselves and the world around us may seem to be doing next to no good. But when that small act of kindness or good deed is added to a whole string of others, then together they can shine out for the whole world to see. When we look at the Christmas lights, I hope we remember our Savior Jesus Christ and I hope we also remember that every time make one small, seemingly insignificant good choice, we are adding another tiny light to the string and making the world a little bit brighter.
