Hundreds of Small Connections
Alternating current is one of the best ways to transport power over long distances. The way alternating current works, though, is that it tends to transmit electric current along the surface or skin of the conductor. So, instead of having big, solid wires where no electricity travels through the core of the wire, and all that metal just heats up and increases its resistance and makes it harder to transport electricity, they weave together hundreds of very thin wires, with very small cores and lots of surface area. We face a similar problem when we try to draw power from our Father in Heaven. Because the Lord's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways, He has a hard time conveying His power and His truth and His knowledge at more than a surface level. If we try to have only one big connection with the Lord, a lot of the power He tries to give us will be lost on us. But, if we can develop hundreds of small connections with the Lord, if we can try to involve Him in hundreds of small ways throughout our day, then He can deliver much more power to us. Sometimes we want God to send one big jolt of power to fix all of our problems all at once. But we can't take in that much power. But if we can ask for help in a million small ways day in and day out, God can help us with those little details far more effectively than just magically fixing everything that's wrong with us in a single instant. We can only receive so much power at a time from a single source, but if we bundle together all of the little miracles, we'll be amazed at how much power God can give to us to change our life and the world for the better.
