We all have things that we do not because we are interested in or inclined towards them but because they are important to someone that we love. Our loved one might really love going to the opera. We might hate going to the opera - it's too loud, it's too confusing to follow what's going on, everyone seems way more invested in it than we are. Then again, maybe we love going to Monster truck rallies and our loved one hates them. They're too loud, way too confusing to follow what's going on, and everyone including us seems way more invested in it than they are. We all do hard things, annoying things, uncomfortable things, boring things, stupid things that are nevertheless important to our loved ones. We may feel lost or out of our depth or frustrated but our love for them outweighs all of our selfish feelings and we do these hard things anyway. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15). The Lord will ask us to do hard things, annoying things, uncomfortable things, boring things, stupid things, but if we love Him, we are going to do them anyway. If the Lord asks us to do things that are outside of our comfort zone, we can make excuses that we are not naturally inclined to do that, or it does not come easily to us, or we don't feel motivated or excited or interested in doing this, or it doesn't make any sense and seems stupid and pointless. Or, we can acknowledge that we love the Lord and we're going to keep His commandments, every single one of them, the ones that are easy and the ones that are hard, the ones we understand and the ones we don't, the ones we like and the ones that we hate. If we can grin and bear it through an opera, or a Monster Truck Rally, or a campout, or hot yoga, or a Blues concert, or a tennis match, because these things are important to the people we love, then we can keep the commandments because they are important to our Heavenly Father, Whom we love.
