Suffer The Little Children
“But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14). All of us experience daily dozens of pure and childlike impulses or promptings to do some small good thing just for the sheer pleasure of it. We often chase back these childlike impulses in the same way that the disciples tried to forbid the little children from coming to be with Jesus. But if we really want to be like our Savior, then we need to suffer the little childlike impulses, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. A child does not worry about the optics of smiling and waving at a complete stranger. They just do it. A child doesn’t worry if they’ll look foolish when they twirl and dance around barefoot in the grass. They just do it. A child does not worry about looking foolish or stupid when they ask for help. They just ask. The better we are at giving heed to our childlike impulses, the more childlike we will become.
