Not Forsaken

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down; but not destroyed; For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9, 17). We are promised that if we follow Christ and faithfully and earnestly seek to do His will then we will have peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come. When we put our trust in Christ, then even though we are troubled on every side, we do not need to be distressed. We can be confused and confounded and perplexed when the rug gets pulled out from under us and maybe we have to start from scratch, or from the bottom of a pit, but if we put our trust in Christ, we do not need to despair. We can feel like the whole world is turned against us and even our friends have abandoned us, but Christ will not forsake us. We can be brought low and cast down again and again and again, but we can know that Christ will not permit us to be destroyed. When we are brought before the scales of life and we have heaped every affliction and sorrow and heartache on one end, we will see that the full scope of the eternal reward that Christ has prepared for us is a much more exceeding weight of glory.
