“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;” (1 Corinthians 12:8). Our whole purpose in life is to learn and gain experience. As part of this learning process, we are often tested. Sometimes these tests seem to come out of nowhere and to cover material to which we haven't yet been introduced. But we don't have to do it alone. The Gift of Wisdom is like having our very own in-person tutor that will sit with us through our test and guide us in the right direction. The Holy Ghost will not always whisper the exact answer to us, but He certainly can give us little hints to prompt us in the right direction, or clear His throat in a meaningful way if we are about to make an obvious blunder that we are too foolish to spot. When we rely on the gift of wisdom, we can pass our tests with flying colors, rather than being forced to enroll in remedial courses and extra lessons of pain and regret and godly sorrow. The gift of wisdom helps us to see the big picture and keep our eye fixed on the glory of God that we may secure for ourselves and for as many as we can reach or influence the immortality and eternal life for which our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ are working so tirelessly. We all are given so many chances every day to choose the right answer or not, but if we seek after and maintain and hold onto the gift of wisdom, then we will more often than not choose the right.
