“He lives and grants me daily breath” (Samuel Medley, “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”). Inspiration comes from the Latin word meaning to breathe into. Enthusiasm is of Greek and Latin origin and means either inspired by or even possessed by God, or literally, God is in us. In a quote often attributed to Winston Churchill, we learn that success consists of “staggering from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.” We can keep pressing forward as long as we hold onto our enthusiasm, our inspiration, our daily breath granted us by our Savior Jesus Christ. It is staggering to consider the delicate balance of forces playing out both on the galactic scale - the Earth is placed just so in the Solar system, not too close and not too far from the sun, and shielded from meteor strikes by Jupiter, and with a spinning molten iron core that can generate a magnetosphere that can both shield us from radiation and hold our atmosphere in place - and an equally delicate balance on the microscopic level - the molecular mixture of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide could easily kill us if the ratios were off by even a little. All of this is directed and guided by our Savior Jesus Christ to ensure that we all get our daily breaths, so that we may choose for ourselves, even if it means choosing to utterly ignore, disregard, or treat with contempt the Sacrifice and the work that our Savior puts forth to give us our daily breath. If we have ended up wasting quite a lot of our breaths, we can still manage to repent and become inspired and filled with the breath of heaven once more and be possessed by the enthusiasm that comes from surrendering our whole soul to our Savior Jesus Christ that He may fill us with His light and His love and His anxious energy to save and redeem and exalt all of God's children.
