Killing Time

“The Lord hath redeemed his people; And Satan is bound and time is no longer. The Lord hath gathered all things in one. The Lord hath brought down Zion from above. The Lord hath brought up Zion from beneath.’ (D&C 84:100). Before Satan’s rebellion and the Fall, all things were together in one with God, including time. For God still, all is as one time in one Eternal Now, but not for us in our fallen state. Just as we are cut off from the presence of the Lord, we are cut off in a large extent from our past and our future. We can’t remember clearly what has gone before, nor can we see clearly what the future holds in store. We can get glimpses, especially when we seek the companionship of the Holy Ghost, Who has the power to bring all things to our remembrance. When we truly draw near unto God, we lose ourselves in that Eternal now. We no longer feel the need to divide one moment from the next, just as we no longer feel the need to divide ourselves from the Lord. Time as measured up in seconds and minutes and hours and as divided up in past and present and future is directly a function of the Fall and being cut off from the Lord. When we are redeemed and restored to the presence of our Heavenly Father, time will cease because divisions between us and the Lord will have ceased. The reason that we so often struggle with timing is because we are not native to time. We began our existence outside of time and we are destined to leave time behind when we return to our Heavenly Home. Time is often frustrating because deep down in our souls it’s a concept that is completely foreign to us. The closer we come to our Savior, the more our pasts and our presents and our futures will be gathered into one once more and the less we will be concerned with which now a certain blessing will appear in because there will be only one Eternal Now.
