An Hundredfold Now In This Time

"And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life." (Mark 10:29-30). I think too often when we make a sacrifice for the Lord, we stoically resign ourselves to the prospect of seeing any kind of reward or recompense only in the next life. This life is the time to eat our bitter herbs and vegetables and the next is the time for us to receive our just desserts. But Jesus promises that we shall receive an hundredfold now at this time, and additional rewards in the world to come. And think about it. If we had to leave our home for the sake of the Gospel, do we not gain access to a hundredfold Houses of the Lord, each far larger and grander and more beautiful and with a more joyful and peaceful and heavenly Spirit than any home we may have been forced to leave behind? If we had to leave brethren and sisters for the sake of the Gospel, do we not have a hundredfold brothers and sisters in any ward that we join? I know it seems impossible when we have to leave behind what we love that God will recompense us a hundredfold now at this time, but nevertheless it is true. I know that if we open our eyes and our hearts, the Lord will reveal how many hundreds of times more we have gained by following Him than what we had to leave behind.
