See That It Is Good

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness." The first thing God did was say let there be light. The second thing God did was to see the light and to see that the light was good. The third thing God did was divide the light from the darkness. Everything else from the planets to the pebbles, from plankton to people, all depended on these first three steps. And I believe God provided this pattern for us to follow. When we have to go out into the unknown, when we have to try to create order out of the chaos and darkness of the void, the first thing we must do is say let there be light. We have the power to pray for light and God will always answer our prayers for more light. The brother of Jared asked the Lord to fill stones with light and the Lord filled those stones with light. But it is not enough to just ask for light. We have to recognize that light and more importantly to see the light is good. And the way that we show how much we view the light as good is to divide the light from the darkness. The more we plead for light, the more we strive to recognize and appreciate that light, the more we divide that which is light and good from the darkness that surrounds us, the more power we will have to continue down the path of creation. We need light before we can create anything else. All energy on Earth comes from the light of the sun. Everything we eat eventually goes back to plants which convert light into energy. Even oil and coal get their energy from sunlight, since they are simply the decomposed remains of plants and animals who got their energy from light. If we are lost or alone or aimless, if we are overwhelmed by the chaos and darkness, first we have to say let there be light. The light will come. And then once there is light we have to see it as good. We will know it is good because it will help us to separate the light from the darkness in our lives. And then we can continue creating all of the wonderful things we can imagine once we have that light.
