Stewards Over Revelations
"I, the Lord, have appointed them, and ordained them to be stewards over the revelations and commandments which I have given unto them, and which I shall hereafter give unto them" (D&C 70:3). The Lord has entrusted each of us with a knowledge and understanding of His word and His revelations and His commandments. Just like in the parable of the talents, we all may have different levels of connection and faith in the scriptures, but also like in that same parable, we each have a responsibility as faithful stewards to grow and develop our understanding of the scriptures. There are a finite number of words in the scriptures, but as we study and seek guidance from the Spirit as we study, we can unlock new and hidden meanings in the scriptures and find new ways to improve our lives and the lives of those around us. We may start out with two or five talents worth of scriptures, but if we read and study and pray with a sincere heart and a real intent to follow and obey the promptings inspired by the scriptures, then we can double the worth and value of those scriptures. Think about it. If we read a certain passage of scripture on one occasion and are inspired by it in one particular way, and then on another occasion we read the same passage and are inspired in an entirely different manner, then we have effectively doubled the number of scriptures we have. Let us be wise and faithful stewards of the Lord's revelations and commandments and not say to ourselves that everything has already been revealed and there's nothing new we can learn, but rather approach each and every verse, even the ones we have read a thousand times, with a curiosity and a determination to receive new revelation, hidden treasures of knowledge, that we had never considered but is perfectly suited to lead and guide us in our choices and decisions.
