Love Is Never Wasted

"Love is never wasted, for its value does not rest in reciprocity." (CS Lewis). Every star in the universe radiates light and energy out in every direction to fill the immensity of space. Each star sends photons shooting out nanosecond after nanosecond to travel and spread light forever. Our telescopes capture light that has been traveling towards us for billions of years. That is how long the light of a star lasts. And the star does not need any of its light back. It will keep shining and shining and shining, never asking for anything in return, just sending out more and more light whether anybody notices or appreciates it or offers up anything in return. The star keeps making light because that is what it does. This is how love is supposed to work. Just as a star is created to send light out into every corner of the universe, we are created to send love out to every corner of the universe. We are children of God. Our purpose is to learn of and try to become like Him. Well, God is love. He is a being that radiates constant, everlasting love from nanosecond to nanosecond, never asking for anything in return, whether we notice or appreciate or attempt to reciprocate or not. We need to learn to be like our Heavenly Father and we need to learn to be like the stars in the heavens. If we shine our love and nobody seems to notice or care, was that act of love wasted? No! We may not have hit the target we were aiming for, but that little photon of love will just keep traveling until it does hit the actual person who needed our love the most, just like some of the light from Alpha Centauri misses all of the planets and asteroids and comets in its own solar system but eventually manages to travel four lightyears away to land on our eyeballs. We each have an infinite capacity to love, and the world would be a far better place if we all chose to just let our love shine out without worrying how or if it will be received but just kept loving and shining anyway.
