Color Fast
In the context of fabrics and dyes, color fastness describes how well the dye in a fabric will resist fading or running when exposed to light or friction or washing. Certain dyes form stronger bonds with the fabric to which they are applied than others do, and thus, these fabrics will hold their true colors for longer. Making sure that a fabric is properly color fast may take more time and preparation but the end result of a fabric that does not lose its color is ultimately worth it. There are certain doctrines and principles that we may try to apply in our lives but at the first sign of adversity or affliction, our enthusiasm fades and our faith and our courage run, just like dyes that are poorly color fast. When the Savior's Apostles attempted to cast out a particularly strong devil, their faith and power had bleached out of them and the Savior explained that this kind only goes out by much prayer and fasting. When we fast, we are causing the doctrines of the Lord to bond with our souls on a stronger and deeper level. The more we fast, the more color fast will be our faith and understanding of the Lord's will. We will find that no matter how much heat we face, our hope will not fade or dim, and no matter how deep of waters we have to swim, our faith and our courage will not run.
