The Prince Of Peace

Isn't it interesting that Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Mighty God, and yet He also retains for Himself the title Prince of Peace? Isn't prince something of a step down from God and King? But there is a real and powerful reason that Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace, not the King or the Lord of Peace, and it's not just because the Prince of Peace has a nice alliteration to it. The whole Plan of Salvation is based upon bringing peace to the seemingly irreconcilable demands of perfect Justice and perfect Mercy. Peace could only be achieved if a Son, an Heir, a Prince Who had not yet assumed the throne but bore within Himself all of the rights, privileges, and authority of His royal lineage would willingly and meekly surrender Himself up to the demands of Justice and Mercy and thus carve out a principality of Salvation within His Father's Kingdom to welcome in refugees who signed and fell short but nevertheless repented and came to the Prince of Peace. “But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” (Psalms 37:11). Peace cannot be won or conquered but can only be inherited by the meek and lowly of heart. It is only fitting, then, that One Who by right is a King is meek enough to take for Himself the title of Prince and Heir to all of the Peace that His Father has. I hope that none of us will ever assume that peace is ours by right but will be meek enough to work and prove ourselves worthy to inherit Peace as princes and princesses in our Heavenly Father's Kingdom.
