“O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place? How long shall thy hand be stayed, and thine eye, yea thy pure eye, behold from the eternal heavens the wrongs of thy people and of thy servants, and thine ear be penetrated with their cries? Yea, O Lord, how long shall they suffer these wrongs and unlawful oppressions, before thine heart shall be softened toward them, and thy bowels be moved with compassion toward them?” (D&C 121:1-3). We tend to assume that our trials and afflictions and pain come between us and the Lord, but that’s just not the case. Our Savior Jesus Christ is the Rock upon which we can always rely. There is no tragedy or crisis that can separate us from Him. We all go through tragedies and crises that make us feel lost and alone, but no matter how much doubt and confusion and fear is swirling around us, there is always that solid rock beneath our feet. We may not always love being caught between the Rock and the hard place, but it is comforting to know that we will never have the hard place between us and our Rock. However hard of a place we are in, our Savior is right there beside us, giving us the strength we need to withstand the opposition that we are facing.
