It Won’t Be Heaven Without You

In the opening pages of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Huck Finn concludes after having heaven explained to him that if his best friend Tom isn’t going to be in heaven, then it didn’t sound like a place he would want to be. Jean-Paul Sartre said that Hell is other people, but Heaven is those we love, and it won’t be heaven, can’t be heaven, if our family and friends and loved ones aren’t there with us. In order for us to enjoy the fullness of eternal life, we owe it to ourselves to do everything in our power to ensure that those we love are in heaven with us. And if we truly love someone and truly want the best for them both in this life and in the eternities to come, we owe it to them to do everything in our power to make sure that we make it into heaven. The Worth of Souls is Great in the sight of God. He sacrificed His Only Begotten Son to ensure that the light of Heaven is not dimmed by the absence of even one of His precious children, so long as there is even the tiniest spark of hope that they will choose to return to Him. Any pain, any sacrifice, any effort to ensure both our own salvation and the salvation of all of those that we love will be repaid infinity times over when we are in heaven with those we love.
