Saving Us Up
When we talk about saving, we usually mean that we are holding in reserve for now to be used later for something very important. We don't spend our money now so that we have it to use later. When we say that Christ saves us, it does not only mean that He has spared us from misery and endless woe. It does mean that for sure, but I think we can find another meaning. God is saving us for certain moments in our lives where we are positioned to do the most good to advance His work and glory. He will not permit us to be completely overwhelmed or used up primarily because He loves us and can't bear the thought of losing us, but also so that we are in position to work miracles. God has a plan for us and it does not involve us collapsing under the weight of the sorrows and woes pressing down on us. If we can but believe and hope when all paths seem closed, we will find that God has prepared a way for us to escape from our certain destruction. The escape might not come as soon as we like nor in the way we might have imagined, but come it must. We are children of God. We are not destined for nasty, brutish, short lives, to toil and labor in obscurity and to pass away having made no impact. God will not forsake us. He will not abandon or forget us. Nor will He allow us to be spent or used up to no purpose. "in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified." (Isaiah 49:2-3). If we feel listless, aimless, useless, helpless, hopeless, if we feel that our efforts are going unacknowledged and unrewarded, if we feel our moment has passed us by, our purpose has gone unfulfilled, let us trust in the Lord anyway, let us hope that He knows what he's doing, that He would not create us to no purpose, to drag us through the valley of the shadow of death for no reason, but rather that He is saving us for a wise purpose, He is holding us in reserve for that one glorious moment when we will bless the lives of millions. God is saving us for something special, if we can only keep the faith and trust in Him.
