A Charitable Foundation
Often when an organization is set up to provide aid or relief it is called a charitable foundation. The term "Charitable Foundation" is actually a good description of the best way to live our lives. When we have charity, or the pure love of Christ, as our foundation, then everything we build on that foundation is guaranteed to stand the test of time. Whenever we make some decision, or take some action, we ought to ask ourselves if that decision or that action is founded on Charity. If we are coming from a place of love, then we are more likely to bring more light and joy and goodness into the world through our actions. If we are not coming from a place of love, then our decisions are not built upon that charitable foundation, and they are more likely to crash down around us, hurting ourselves and others through our carelessness or selfishness. As Paul said, "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Everything that is not built upon the charitable foundation will fade away like a sounding brass, or fall apart or burn to ashes. Everything that is not built on the charitable foundation will come to nothing in the end. Everything that is built upon the charitable foundation will endure through our lives and into the eternities.
