The Finisher Of Our Faith...And Our Doubt

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrew 12:2). When we are in the middle of a trial of our faith or the furnace of affliction, it can be hard to hold onto our faith and trust that Jesus Christ will give us the strength to endure to the end of our trial. But what about when we abandon our faith? What happens when we forsake our Covenants or even in the hardness of our hearts rebel against our Heavenly Father? I believe that Jesus Christ’s promise to be the Author and Finisher of our Faith extends to whatever amount of faith that we have, even if that faith is approaching near zero or descends into the negative. Christ will take all of our best efforts and make them better. He will take all of the worst things we have done and He will ensure that they will have been good to have been. If our life were a piece of music, Christ would take all of the notes that we played at the wrong time, or were too flat or too loud and weave them together with all of our most beautiful and triumphant chords into a complete, perfect melody. Christ is the finisher of our faith and our doubts. He will prove right all of our brightest hopes, and prove wrong all of our deepest despairs. He will unite all that we have done and all that we are, the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly, the righteous and the wicked, into one complete, perfect, harmonious whole.
