I Perceive That You Are Weak

“I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time. Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again.” (3 Nephi 17:2-3). If we are hesitating or delaying turning to the Lord because we are afraid that He will find out how weak we are, we are fooling ourselves if we think that He doesn’t already know. He knows all of our weaknesses a lot better than we do. But weakness should never be an impediment to initiating or strengthening a relationship with our Savior. He will give us as much as we can handle, maybe, even, a little more than we can handle, and then He will give us the space and the opportunity to go home and ponder and pray that we may understand better, and then we go back the next day and try again. It may take a lot of back and forth, much more than we were perhaps prepared for, for us to overcome our weakness and understand the words that Jesus has for us, but He knows our weaknesses and our limitations and He is willing and eager to work with us to overcome them. We won’t get it all or get it right on the first or even the four hundred and ninetieth try, but as long as we keep coming unto the Savior and then pondering and praying for understanding and coming back to Him again, then eventually we will understand.
