“But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” (Malachi 4:2). We often talk about Jesus Christ’s ability to understand and comfort us in our sufferings because He felt that same suffering in His own body as He atoned for the sins of the world. Every broken bone and broken heart and broken promise that we’ve suffered, Jesus knows exactly what that feels like because He felt it Himself. But just as He was wounded for us, so was He healed for us. Jesus Christ was pierced to His very soul, crushed down to the molecular level, every atom set ablaze in an infinity of pain and suffering. It is unthinkable that He would not need to go through a healing process after that level of damage and trauma. And He did. He arose with Healing in His wings. Jesus Christ has the power to heal us not just because He knows precisely what it feels like to be as broken as we are, but because He knows precisely what it feels like to be healed from those specific wounds. When we are drowning in an ocean of pain, it is inconceivable to us how a path to recovery and healing could possibly be found let alone walked down, but our Savior knows the way, because He walked it Himself. After all, it is not as if there isn’t a great deal of pain and suffering in the recovery process. Sometimes, it seems, there is even more pain in the recovery than there had been in our ailments. But Jesus Christ felt all of our pain - the pain of our injuries, and the pain of our healing. If it sometimes has to get worse before it gets better, we know that Jesus is there through the worse and then through the better. If the Savior of the World suffered the pains and afflictions of every living creature and after all of that managed to be healed, then we too can be healed through His power.
