Noble Gases

Noble Gases are a special set of elements that share similar properties, namely that they exist as gases at room temperature and they are extremely non-reactive. I don’t want to get too lost in the weeds with chemistry, but most chemical reactions occur because an atom has either too many or too few electrons, but noble gases have the exact right amount of electrons, which is why they almost never react with anything. When we put our trust in the Lord and seek to have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, we can become filled with God’s love to such a degree that we never have a bad reaction to whatever circumstances we are in. When we are filled with the knowledge and confidence that we are noble sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father, we don’t need to go chasing after the latest fads, or driven about by every wind of doctrine. Nor will we be tempted to cast our pearls before swine, or be persuaded to give our oil to those who are too lazy or selfish to obtain their own. A lot of things in life seem to demand a reaction, but each of us has been gifted with the freedom and responsibility to think and act for ourselves. It is within our own power to choose if we will react or not react to something. There may be times that we feel like an atom stuffed with too many electrons - so full of anger or lust or hatred that we feel like we have to lash out or we’ll explode. There may be times that we feel like an atom shaking apart from too few electrons - so empty and starving for attention or respect or self-worth or meaning that we will surrender ourselves to anyone or anything that promises to take away the giant hole in our hearts. But if we turn to our Savior, He can transform us into a Noble gas, filled with the exact right amount of electrons, and He can absorb all of our over-energetic tendencies, and He can fill up all of the holes in our souls with His bottomless depths of mercy and compassion. When we have His Spirit to be with us, we can be like the noble gas and choose not to react, no matter how crazy our situation is.
