Waiting For A Friend

We tend to think of waiting on the Lord as some boring and undesirable chore. It's like waiting in the Doctor's office - we have to be patient and acknowledge that our time is less valuable and this is why we must wait. But that's not the only kind of waiting. It might be more productive to think of waiting on the Lord as similar to waiting for a friend, especially waiting for a friend to accompany us on a scary or difficult task without whose support we would feel unable or unwilling to go through with it. We're not waiting on the Lord because He's on some power trip and enjoys watching us squirm. We're waiting on the Lord because we don't want to do this without Him. When we go to pick a friend up from the airport and the arrival is delayed, we don't storm off in a huff and angrily text them to get an Uber and ask them to be more considerate of our precious time. No. We wait for them. We wait for them because we love them and the whole reason we are there in the airport in the first place is to wait until they arrive. Waiting on the Lord does not have to be this huge burden or excruciating trial of our patience. We can wait for the Lord because we love Him and we need Him to help us face what's coming up next.
