Mind And Heart Together

I remember in an institute class we talked about the Liahona and its two pointers that told the way. It got into a pretty technical discussion about design principles which I don't fully remember but the gist was that when the two pointers came together, that's when Lehi and his family knew which way to go, but if the pointers separated, then they wouldn't know which pointer to follow. It's only when they came together that the way was clear. The Lord says that He will tell us in our minds and in our hearts if it be true. Just like the pointers of the Liahona, we have to make sure that our minds and our hearts come together if we want to have a hope of knowing how to proceed. If we feel something in our hearts, but it doesn't make sense logically in our minds, then we are going to come up with all kinds of arguments and excuses as to why we shouldn't do it. And if we know it in our minds but our hearts are not in it, then we just flat out won't do it, or we'll half ass it or do it grudgingly. So if we are faced with an important decision we need to plead with the Lord that He will reveal the way to us in both our minds and in our hearts that way we can have a unity of purpose and cut out any confusion or internal turmoil. God gave us a brain and a heart and the courage to make sure that both are in agreement.
