Stewards of the Mysteries of God
Paul calls us "stewards of the mysteries of God" (1 Corinthians 4:1). God entrusts us with His mysteries. He believes that we will be good and faithful stewards of the knowledge that He reveals unto us. God does not reveal His mysteries unto us just so that we can hide them secretly away and gloat that we are more knowledgeable than our poor, benighted, ignorant brothers and sisters. Being a steward of the mysteries of God means treating the knowledge we receive with reverence and respect. It means seeking ways to cultivate and widen and deepen our knowledge. It means sharing our knowledge wisely and appropriately. Knowledge is power. The greater our knowledge, the greater our power, the greater our responsibility. If we prove ourselves faithful over a few mysteries, God will make us stewards over many mysteries. And as we learn line upon line, here a little there a little, as our stewardship of the mysteries of God grows and broadens and enriches, more and more we will come to know God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. "For this is life eternal, to know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3).
