The Key To Unlocking Agency

“The Lord said unto Enoch: Behold these thy brethren; they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge, in the day I created them; and in the Garden of Eden, gave I unto man his agency;” (Moses 7:32). Heavenly Father first gave us knowledge, and then after that, He gave us agency. It is almost a cliche that knowledge is power, but it’s a cliche for a reason. And it makes sense. To have agency is to act with some sense of purpose and intention, and we can only truly do that if we first have the knowledge to make informed decisions. The greater degree to which we study and apply ourselves and grow our knowledge and experience, the more fully we will be able to realize the full potential of our agency. This forms a powerful positive feedback loop. We exercise our agency, which expands our knowledge, which strengthens our agency, which brings us more knowledge, and on the on. God never intended for us to only gather knowledge for its own sake. He wants us to apply the knowledge with which we blesses us, and by applying it we can grow it further. And by the same token, God doesn't want us to be acting without thinking. Otherwise, we will just go through life with things happening to us instead of learning and growing and changing. I know that the more we bind together our knowledge and our agency, the more rapid will be our progress to our divine potential.
