At One Ment

The suffix -ment can be used to transform an adjective into a noun, as in the case of the adjective merry becoming the adjective merriment, or it can transform a verb into a noun, as in the case of the verb enjoy becoming the noun enjoyment. The word Atonement is made up of the parts At, One, and Ment. Jesus Christ's Atonement helps to bring us "At One" with our Heavenly Father, our Savior, and the Holy Ghost. But how does this happen? That is where the Ment comes in. Just as the suffix -ment, when added to the end of a verb or an adjective transforms it into a noun, so too does the Atonement help to transform our actions into who we are. The more that we seek to enlighten ourselves, the more that we will come to embody enlightenment through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The more we seek to fulfill our purpose on this Earth, the more we will come to embody fulfillment through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. As we diligently apply the enabling power of Christ's Atonement into our lives, our actions will become habits, our habits will become integrated into our character, our character will fundamentally alter our core nature. We will eventually no longer be a person who encourages, we will be encouragement. We will eventually no longer be someone who testifies, we will be a testament to the power and majesty and mercy and forgiveness and goodness of Christ and His infinite Atonement. I pray that we will all allow Christ's Atonement to take all that we do that is good and right and noble and affix it irrevocably to the core aspect of our beings, so that we may truly be At One with our Savior not just in our actions but in the very essence of our souls.
